Year 5 2020 - 2021
Hello to all of our new Year 5 children!
We are really looking forward to teaching you in September. The classroom is now set up with tables facing the front. We have plenty of handwash so we are ready to go!
Have a brilliant summer holiday and please do not worry. We will have a great time in September!
Welcome to Year 5,
Our topic for this term is World War 2.
In the morning, we have maths and English. In the afternoon, classes will be taught Science, ICT, P.E. and topic work. Each class will also have Spanish lessons with Alvaro. The classes will be assisted by Mrs Smithies and Mr Higham.
Year 5 usually get the wonderful chance to learn how to play the recorder. We will hopefully start this as soon as we are allowed to. Each child will be loaned a recorder from school and your child will need to bring it in each Thursday for the lesson. You’ll be able to listen to your child’s progress as they will need to practise at home each week!
In Year 5, we love reading! We will begin the year by ensuring that each child is still in the habit of reading at home at least three times a week. We know that life can get busy but your child will really benefit from regular time reading with an adult at home. The class teachers check reading diaries each week…and there are prizes!
Children need to ensure that they come to school in PE kit on the days that we have PE. Full participation is required for PE unless a medical note has been given. PE sessions will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons this term.
This term we would like the focus of our homework is times tables - essential to our success in Year 5. Please make sure that your child practises regularly. There are lots of ways to have a go at home: quizes with you, online games, family competitions, times table card games and songs to name a few. Rapid recall of tables will reap great rewards in your child's maths work.
We are hoping to plan some exciting trips for this school year. We will send you the information for these nearer to the time.
Your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated and will contribute significantly to your child’s progress through school. As always, do contact us with any concerns or queries.
